A Unique Northwood’s Retreat.
This handcrafted log cabin, based on the Early American style, built by owners Russ and Kelli Nellis, has been a favorite getaway for families and couples since 2001.
The cabin is tucked away just inside a maple grove on the Nellis’ 200-acre homestead for a private, yet not too remote of a location.
The sugar maples provide the Nellis family with plenty of delicious homemade maple syrup every spring. During that time, the family enjoys visitors as they sit around the fire boiling down the sap.
There’s plenty to see at the Nellis farm as they raise Shetland sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese. With lots of room to roam you can take a leisurely stroll around the property, mountain bike or go hiking out in the woods on numerous trails, explore the cedar bog which is carpeted in lush moss (rubber boots required). In the winter you can snowshoe or cross country ski (skis and snowshoes not provided). Snowmobile trails are located nearby.
The cabin has all the comforts of home with two queen-size beds, one on the main floor and the second upstairs in the loft. The loft is furnished with a whirlpool tub for two, a sitting area and a writing desk. A full bathroom with shower, toilet, sink and vanity is located on the first floor.
Take some time to relax and catch up on some reading or watch a movie in the living room which has a hide-a-bed coach, TV, DVD player, recliner and an Ijoy Massage chair.
Make light meals in the kitchenette which is equipped with a microwave oven, counter top indoor grill, toaster oven, toaster, coffee pot, dishes, and utensils. There is a gas grill for your outdoor cooking convenience by the picnic area and campfire ring. Campfire wood is included.
Enjoy the fresh air and scenery from the front porch swing and rocking chairs provided for your pleasure.
There all kinds of area activities and sights to see since the Log Cabin Homestead is located in the heart of the Northwoods between Eagle River and Rhinelander with countless lakes surrounding great for boating, fishing and recreation. The area is a popular destination for hunting as well. For excellent dining, Sugar Camp is home to two well-known restaurants, The White Stag, which is ¼ mile south at the corner of Hwy’s D and 17 and Laura’s Cafe’, 2 miles south on Hwy 17.
Whether you are looking for a vacation full of activity, a quiet getaway, a honeymoon retreat or are learning about getting back to the land and want to visit a modern day homestead, the Log Cabin Homestead has much to offer.
The Nellis family invites you to pull up a chair and stay awhile!
